Tiaan Whelpton is New Zealand’s fastest man - and he’s not done yet. With a blistering personal best this season and a new national record to his name, Tiaan is closing in on a goal no Kiwi sprinter has ever achieved - breaking the elusive 10-second barrier in the 100 metres.

The Aotearoa Athletics Trust is proud to award Tiaan one of our first inaugural grants to help him race where it counts, and chase his dreams on the world stage.

"Thanks to the generous support of the Aotearoa Athletics Trust I’ve been able to travel overseas and pursue the international competitions I need to help me qualify for the World Championships. This simply wouldn’t have been possible otherwise so I’m incredibly grateful for their belief in me and their commitment to supporting my growth as an athlete. "

Off the track, Tiaan brings the same drive and discipline. A former high school rugby player turned elite sprinter, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology with a minor in Geography. He models part-time, and brings creativity and curiosity to passions like photography, cars, gaming, and coffee culture.
