Maddie Wilson is steadily building a reputation as one of New Zealand’s most exciting multi-event athletes. A former U18 national record holder and consistent performer on the domestic stage, she has already collected 10 senior national medals and continues to push her way into the international arena. With invitations to compete at the prestigious Götzis Hypo Meeting in both 2025 and 2026, Maddie is stepping onto one of the biggest stages in combined events as she targets major championships in the years ahead.

Her progression has been defined by consistency and a genuine love for the sport. A Gisborne local at heart, Maddie has worked her way through the ranks with a strong foundation across all disciplines, with a particular affinity for the high jump. Now based in Christchurch under the guidance of James Sandilands, she continues to refine her craft across all seven events, combining technical development with a passion for the work—especially when it comes to running sessions.

The Aotearoa Athletics Trust is proud to support Maddie as she takes on the World Combined Events Tour across Europe and builds toward future Black Singlet opportunities.

"I am incredibly grateful to receive this grant for the 2026 season. It will support me to compete on the World Combined Events Tour across Europe and prepare for the Commonwealth Games, which are both essential stepping stones to reaching a Major Black Singlet event. Not only does it ease the financial demands of competing, but having the backing and belief of AAT as I chase my goals means a huge amount. I am massively thankful to Hamish, Tom and the whole AAT team for supporting me in a crucial time in my career and contributing to my 2026 campaign.”

Maddie is a qualified civil engineer, holding a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, and works part-time at Holmes Solutions. A proud “Gizzy” girl, she makes the most of her downtime at the beach, chasing sunshine and surf whenever she can. Whether it’s on the track or in the ocean, Maddie brings energy, balance, and a grounded perspective to everything she does.
