Nick Palmer’s shot put career is gaining serious momentum, and the Aotearoa Athletics Trust is proud to be backing him for a second year as he rises through the ranks.

With a personal best of 20.32m last year and selection for the 2025 World University Games and the 2025 World Championships, Nick is fast cementing his place among the sport’s next generation of global contenders.

“The funding last year helped me to reach my first senior World Championships which was a major milestone in launching my international career. Being awarded a grant again this year has given me the confidence, as well as the resources, to compete on the World stage  again this year. It is essential to fill this gap in support for athletes and without organisations like the Aotearoa Athletics Trust, athletes like myself would find this journey infinitely harder. Most importantly, it allows me to focus on what’s important – throwing far.”

Nick is not only a serious contender in the circle - he’s a student of sport itself. He holds a Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Coaching and is currently studying towards a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. You’ll also find him hanging out with his two dogs, Cosmo and Rocket, obsessing over good coffee, watching sport, or diving into a great book with family nearby.
